A racetam is a class of synthetic drugs which share the common feature of a pyrrolidone nucleus. Racetams include:  piracetam, aniracetam, oxiracetam, phenylpiracetam, fasoracetam, levetiracetam, and seletracetam. Racetams enhance memory and learning through interacting with cholinergic and glutaminergic receptors in the brain and enhance focus and attention. Some racetams are fully understood, and others are relatively new (such as fasoracetam) and need further research to understand their mechanism of actions. Some racetams are also considered nootropics (such as piracetam, aniracetam, oxiracetam, phenylpiracetam) while others (such as levetiracetam and seletracetam) are anticonvulsants. Racetams can be helpful for attention-deficit disorders like ADD and ADHD.
